Jeffrey Montez de Oca is a Professor of Sociology and the founding director of the Center for the Critical Study of Sport at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. He is also a former president of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS).

As the inaugural ADVANCE Faculty Fellow, Dr. Montez de Oca will assist in both the adaption of relevant content for, and pilot implementation of, promotion and tenure committee training inspired by Georgia Tech’s Awareness of Decisions in Evaluating Promotion and Tenure (ADEPT) materials. He will partner with Project CREST leadership to adapt the existing training materials to UCCS, pilot test the training, and develop a sustainable training plan. The long-term goal is to deliver annual training to a) Deans b) Department and Primary Unit Review Chairs, and c) Dean’s Review Committees that uses education, case studies, discussions, and peer-learning to help reviewers better serve as central nodes in both understanding the complexity of inequity and translating these ideas into practice when doing evaluations.
